A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, published in 1843, is the story of an old miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, who receives a visit from the ghost of an old friend and the Christmas spirits. Also, after their departures, this man turns into another kind, gentle and generous man. This story inspired many aspects of Christmas, including family reunions, food, drink, games, and a festive bounty of spirit. This story has been translated into several languages and adapted for film and other media. Charles Dickens is British and lived in England (1812 - 1870). He is famous and recognized as a literary genius and as a writer, novelist, playwright, journalist and social critic. He has given public readings of his works on popular tours in Britain and the United States. Dickens' writings have been translated into many languages and adapted for film and other media. Dickens was an advocate for children's rights and the status of women. He died aged 58.
